The area of a triangle is equal to one half the product
of the length of its base times the length of its height.

The area of a rectangle is equal to the product of the
length of its width times the length of its length.

Given: h = ft
b = ft
c = ft
and d = ft
The (shaded red) area of the rectangle shown above A = ft2

Example:

Find the the shaded red area of the figure shown above.
Solution: The red area of the figure shown is equal to the
area of the rectangle minus the area of the triangle.

The area of the rectangle Ar = cd

The area of the triangle click refresh (F5)

Suppose you are given:
h = 4 ft
b = 3 ft
c = 5 ft
and d = 4 ft
The area of the red shaded area is

click refresh (F5)

Substituting values into the equation gives: click refresh (F5)

Thus, the shaded area As = 14 ft2
