The area of a rectangle A = length x width

Given: The perimeter of a rectangular garden P = m.
The length of the rectangular garden L = m.
The area of the rectangular garden A = m2.

The perimeter of a rectangular lot is given as P = 56 m.
The longer length of the lot is L = 18 m.
The perimeter equals twice the length plus twice the width of the lot or click on refresh (F5).

The shorter length of the lot is click on refresh (F5).
Solving for the area of the lot click on refresh (F5)m2.
Thus, for P = 56 m and L = 18 m, enter
18(56-2(18))/2 in the Function f(x) box and click on the Plot Graph box
the answer will appear to the right of f(x) = 180.
Note the parentheses that are needed.
Thus you can check your calculations with this Graphing Calculator.
