Note: Remember to use an asterisk (*) when multiplying terms together!
Round the numbers in your answer out to two decimal points.
Example: enter 3.10x +2.355 as 3.1*x +2.36 etc...

Write the equation for the blue line shown in the figure above.
Given the ordered pairs (x1,y1) = (, )
and (x2,y2) = (, -)

y =

Example:

Write the equation for the line shown in the figure below.

Solution: The general equation for a straight line can be written as y = mx + b
where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept of the line.
For the line shown, the line crosses the y-axis at x = 0 and y = 1.5. Thus, b = 1.5

Also for the line shown, for x = 1, y = 3.5. Thus as x goes from 0 to 1, y goes from 1.5 to 3.5

so the slope m of the line can be found as click on refresh(F5)

Now you can write the equation of the line y = mx + b as y = 2x + 1.5

You can check this solution using the graphing calculator by entering 2*x+1.5 in the Function f(x)=box.
Then click on the Plot Graph button.
The answer will graph in the grapher. Compare it with the figure given above.

Example:

For a point located 2.5 units to the right of the origin and 1.3 units down
from the origin, the ordered pair (x,y) = (2.5 , -1.3).
