Problem 2

Select a different problem

Solve the following:

Given:
The number of boys and girls (B + G) in the biology class is
There are more girls than boys (G - B).
How many girls (G) and boys (B) are in the class?

G (girls) =

B (boys) =

Example:

The sum of two numbers is 48. The difference
of the same two numbers is 24. What are the
the two numbers?

This can be written in shorthand form as

N1 + N2 = 48 and
N1 - N2 = 24 and

Adding the two equations gives 2N1 = 72.

So N1 = 36.

Subtracting the two equations gives 2N2 = 24.

So N2 = 12.
