Note: To get credit, also enter your units as 2.1*f (feet),
6.4*k (kilometers), 7.82*m (miles),
9.95*m (meters), etc...Round your answer to two
decimal points. Do not show the trailing zero,
that is 2.40 kilometers becomes 2.4*k

Given:
John drove his car from home to the repair shop at kilometers per hour.
He returned home in a borrowed car at kilometers per hour.
If the round trip took hours, how far was it from his home to
to the repair shop? (remember to enter units)

(a) d (distance to the shop) =

Example:

In the morning the passenger train made the trip at 10 miles per hour.
In the afternoon the passenger train made the return trip at 4 miles per hour.
The round trip took 14 hours. How far was the morning trip? (they were both the same distance)

In shorthand form the problem can be written as follows:
The distance traveled (1) click on refresh(F5)

The total round trip time (2) click on refresh(F5)

The velocity (3) click on refresh(F5) and

(4) click on refresh(F5)

From equation (1) you get (5) click on refresh(F5)

From equation (2) you get (6) click on refresh(F5)

Factor equation (6) to get (7) click on refresh(F5)

Solve (7) for t2 to get (8) click on refresh(F5)

But from equation (1) you get (9) click on refresh(F5)

Substituting this in click on refresh(F5) and click on refresh(F5)

click on refresh(F5)
